What Van Dirk said about Liverpool’s Quadruple hopes after reaching Carabao Cup final
Liverpool’s captain, Virgil van Dijk, has said that the team will not get carried away with dreams of a quadruple this season, despite reaching the Carabao Cup final. After beating Tottenham Hotspur 4-0 at Anfield, Liverpool secured a 4-1 aggregate victory and will face Newcastle United in the final on March 16.
Van Dijk scored a header in the game, following goals from Cody Gakpo, Mohamed Salah, and Dominik Szoboszlai. The win puts Liverpool in a strong position, as they are also leading the Premier League by six points over Arsenal, have reached the Champions League last-16, and will play Plymouth Argyle in the FA Cup.
Despite the team’s strong form, Van Dijk made it clear that they are not focused on winning all four competitions. “We have to manage and try to win every game ahead of us. We’re not thinking about a quadruple,” he told CBS Sports.
He added that every game will be tough, and the focus should be on enjoying the journey and concentrating on their own performance, rather than worrying about other teams.
Liverpool has faced disappointment in recent seasons, coming close to winning multiple trophies. Last year, after winning the League Cup, their push for the Premier League title faltered, and they were knocked out of the FA Cup and Europa League. In the 2021-22 season, despite winning both the League Cup and FA Cup, they missed out on a quadruple when they lost the Champions League final to Real Madrid and were pipped to the Premier League title by Manchester City.
