What Victor Osimhen said after helping Galatasaray beat Fenerbahce in tensed clash
Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen was the hero for Galatasaray, scoring both goals in their 2-1 win over Fenerbahçe in the Turkish Cup quarter-finals.
The match, a heated Istanbul derby, was played in a charged atmosphere but was later overshadowed by a post-match clash between Fenerbahçe manager José Mourinho and Galatasaray coach Okan Buruk.
Osimhen’s Match-Winning Performance
On loan from Napoli, Osimhen delivered a brilliant performance, helping Galatasaray bounce back after their recent league defeat to Besiktas.
The Super Eagles forward opened the scoring in the 9th minute, firing a shot into the top corner after a well-placed long pass from Davinson Sánchez.
He then doubled the lead in the 27th minute, converting a penalty after Filip Kostić handled the ball in the box.
Despite Fenerbahçe controlling possession, they could only pull one goal back before halftime when Sebastian Szymański finished from Anderson Talisca’s assist.
The second half saw Galatasaray defend strongly, frustrating their rivals and securing a place in the semi-finals. However, tempers flared in the final moments, leading to three red cards for Kerem Demirbay, Baris Alper Yilmaz, and Mert Hakan Yandaş.
Osimhen: “I Want to Give My Best for Galatasaray”
After the match, Osimhen expressed his happiness and appreciation for his teammates and the fans.
“We know that Galatasaray vs Fenerbahçe matches are always intense and difficult. We had to stay focused for the entire game.”
“Last week, we disappointed our fans, so we wanted to make it up to them. Now, we will take things game by game and keep improving.”
The Nigerian star also spoke about how much he enjoys playing for Galatasaray.
“Since I arrived here, I have loved this club, the people, and the fans. I want to repay their love by working hard.”
“Scoring in a derby is special, but I couldn’t have done it without my teammates. They always support me, and I’m grateful for that.”
With Osimhen in top form, Galatasaray will now look ahead to their next challenge as they continue their hunt for domestic silverware.
