Why CAF postponed Libya vs Nigeria AFCON 2025 qualifier

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially announced the postponement of the AFCON 2025 qualifying match between Libya and Nigeria. The match, initially scheduled for Tuesday evening, faced significant challenges that led to its postponement.

The Super Eagles declined to proceed with the game, citing concerns over the organisation and logistics of the encounter. Despite the Libya Football Federation continuing preparations on Tuesday morning, CAF later notified them that the match would not take place as planned.

CAF’s announcement clarified that the match was postponed due to “circumstances and difficulties” in organising the game on time. This decision comes after the uncertainty surrounding the match logistics, which created tension between the two teams.

CAF is expected to provide an update soon regarding a new date or further steps for the fixture. With Group D tightly contested, the postponed game could prove decisive as Nigeria aims to maintain their lead over Benin Republic and Rwanda.

The Super Eagles’ next scheduled qualifier is a crucial match against Benin Republic in November.
