Why Coach Daniel Ogunmodede Has Been Absent At Remo Stars
Super Eagles assistant coach Daniel Ogunmodede has been asked to step away from his job at Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) champions Remo Stars so he can focus fully on his national team duties ahead of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco.
Reports say Ogunmodede, who guided Remo Stars to their first NPFL title last season, has not returned to the club since they were knocked out early from the CAF Champions League by Mamelodi Sundowns. A club insider said he was advised to give all his attention to the Super Eagles as they prepare for AFCON.
“He was told not to worry about the club for now and to concentrate on the Super Eagles until after the tournament,” the source said. Some people at the club reportedly feel that managing both roles had become too difficult and was affecting his work.
This news comes soon after Remo Stars released a statement denying rumours that Ogunmodede had been sacked. The club said he is still their head coach and dismissed claims that he had been removed.
Remo Stars are currently ninth in the NPFL with 22 points from 16 games, eight points behind leaders Nasarawa United as the season reaches the halfway stage.
The temporary break is expected to help Ogunmodede focus completely on the Super Eagles’ plans as the coaching team works to build a strong squad for the tournament
