Why I am playing with 2 strikers after criticism of Rohr’s formation – Peseiro
Says he is playing attacking football to please Nigerians
Super Eagles handler Jose Peseiro has said he is playing with two strikers with a focus on attacking football as against Gernot Rohr’s style to please Nigerians.
Since Jose Pesiro’s appointment as the coach of the Super Eagles of Nigeria, he has made his team play a 4-4-2 formation as opposed to a 5-3-2 formation mostly used by Gernot Rohr.
The Portuguese during a postmatch interview with NFF TV explained his football philosophy which he described as what Nigerians like.
“I like the football in the quality the ball possession, the create clear opportunities, of course, our mistake today was the finishing.
“But can come in the next match, can come in the next AFCON qualification match, I think at this moment, I’m happy because I’m in the room in a good way.
“I don’t speak about the result because it goes against, but about the model, about our organization, you show for everybody and nice football quality with the pass, with control, with two strikers you try to play in the attack every time.
“Sometimes good, of course not today as we didn’t create opportunity, you go in the right, you go left, inside, you try to play in the offensive game like the fans and the people like us to play.”
One of the reasons mentioned as to why Gernot Rohr was sacked was his playing style, and Peseiro also mentioned this to explain his decision for playing attractive football.
“The last coach left because the people complain about that, now I want to play this match, this football, nice beautiful because with this style you can create more opportunity.”
Jose Peseiro made history when he led Nigeria to a historic 10-0 victory over Sao Tome and Principe, Super Eagles’ highest-ever scoreline win.
The Portuguese has also entered the record books as the first Nigerian manager to lose four consecutive games.
