Why Jose Mourinho called Mauro Icardi ‘A GOAT’
José Mourinho and Galatasaray striker Mauro Icardi have had a heated exchange on social media, SportsRation reports details of the feud which saw the Portuguese manager tag Icardi a GOAT.
The feud began when Fenerbahce manager Mourinho posted a picture of a possible handball by Galatasaray defender Davinson Sanchez during their recent match against Gaziantep FK. He captioned the image with a message congratulating the Portuguese handball team on their World Cup performance, suggesting that refereeing decisions were inconsistent.
Icardi quickly hit back, sharing a meme showing Mourinho with tears in his eyes, poking fun at Mourinho’s old nickname “The Special One.” Icardi also posted a photo of what appeared to be a handball by a Fenerbahce player, implying that refereeing inconsistencies were happening across the league.
At a press conference, Mourinho responded in his usual sarcastic style. He said, “I am Special One, not The Special One. With 25 years of career and 26 titles, I don’t need one match to define my career. My career is about 25 years of success.”
When asked about Icardi’s comments, Mourinho said, “Icardi is a GOAT (Greatest of All Time), and I refuse to comment on a GOAT’s words. He is too big, I won’t comment.”
This social media spat adds more fuel to the growing rivalry between Fenerbahce and Galatasaray. Fenerbahce will next face Anderlecht in the Europa League on Thursday.
