Why Messi and Alba have been SUSPENDED by the MLS

Major League Soccer (MLS) has suspended Lionel Messi and Jordi Alba, both players for Inter Miami, after they failed to take part in this week’s All-Star events.

Messi and Alba were selected to play in the MLS All-Star Game, but they did not join any of the activities, including the skills challenge on Tuesday and the match against Mexico’s Liga MX team on Wednesday.

According to MLS rules, players who miss the All-Star game without permission must be suspended.

On Friday, the league announced that both players will serve a one-match ban, meaning they won’t be available for Inter Miami’s game against Cincinnati on Saturday night.

Jorge Mas, Inter Miami’s managing owner, said Messi is very upset about the suspension.
“I don’t agree with the rule,” Mas said. “I’ve told the commissioner exactly how I feel.”
