Why the Akwa United vs Bendel Insurance NPFL match will not be played on December 8
The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) clash between Akwa United and Bendel Insurance, initially scheduled for Sunday, December 8, has been postponed to Monday, December 9, due to logistical reasons involving the CAF Confederation Cup.
Enyimba FC, Nigeria’s representative in the 2024 CAF Confederation Cup, will be hosting Zamalek of Egypt for their group-stage Matchday 2 fixture on December 8 at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo. The venue, home to Akwa United, is being used as Enyimba’s temporary ground after their home stadium in Aba was deemed unsuitable for the competition by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
Although there were considerations to move the Akwa United vs Bendel Insurance game to Saturday, December 7, that option proved unfeasible as Zamalek, in accordance with CAF regulations, is required to have a training session on the pitch on Saturday evening ahead of their Sunday match.
To ensure proper coordination and avoid fixture clashes, the NPFL announced the rescheduling of the Akwa United vs Bendel Insurance game to Monday, December 9 .
