Wilfred Ndidi and Two Other Players That Can Improve The Current Super Eagles Squad.
Wilfred Ndidi is one of Nigeria’s most important players at the moment. The 25 year old Leicester City Midfielder has been out of action since match when he went off Injured vs Rennes in a UEFA Europa League game.
This Injury forced Ndidi out of the World Cup qualification playoffs vs Ghana and most recently the 2023 AFCON Qualification games vs Sierra Leone and Sao Tome and Principe.
In the last game, the Super Eagles hit a new high by putting 10 past poor Sao Tome and Principe in Agadir, Morroco . The obvious gulf in quality of playing personnel notwithstanding, it takes a very good team to score ten goals like the Jose Paseiro tutored Eagles did.
The two wins to kickstart the AFCON Qualifiers is a good feat but there are still grey areas Super Eagles Head Coach Jose Paseiro must work to improve one of which is the defensive Midfield position that will get answers when Wilfred Ndidi returns.
We take a look at Wilfred Ndidi and two other players who can improve the current Super Eagles Squad .
1. WILFRED NDIDI
The 25 year old Midfielder is one of Nigeria’s best players and will certainly return to the team when he recovers from the Injury that has kept him out of action since March.
When he returns, Ndidi will provide cover for the Super Eagles defence and give the other Midfielders more freedom to attack like new manager Jose Paseiro will like them to.
2. KELECHI IHENACHO
Another Leicester City player who was not in the squad for the last round of matches. Kelechi Ihenacho has the second best goal scoring record in the current Super Eagles generation.
Ihenacho has scored 12 times a return bettered by only Victor Osimhen whose 5 goals in the last international window took him past the Leicester City forward to 15 goals .
With Jose Paseiro preferring a 4-4-2 a formation that gives opportunity for more forward players, Ihenacho will come good with his left foot an asset plus the ability to track back and get the ball . Jose Paseiro will likely extend invitation to Kelechi Ihenacho as he settles down into his new role.
In his first two competitive games, Paseiro has tested Terem Moffi and Sadiq Umar as partners for Victor Osimhen. Terem Moffi excelled with two goals against Sao Tome and Principe to boost his rating within the Eagles setup.
Whenever he is invited, Ihenacho will bring another option with his shots from outside the area a good weapon against defensively water tight opponents as Jose Paseiro prepares a team capable of conquering Africa at the 2022 AFCON.
3. OLISA NDAHÂ
Orlando Pirates Defender Olisa Ndah was part of the Super Eagles squad to the 2021 AFCON in Cameroon where he made one appearance off the substitute bench.
Calm on the ball, excellent man marking ability and blessed with a special ball distribution skill that opens up opposition defences , Olisa Ndah is one player whose style suits perfectly into the Jose Paseiro system.
With the new Super Eagles Head Coach obsessed with his team piling pressure on the opposition in attack, Olisa Ndah’s ability to push forward with the ball and accuracy on the pass will improve the current Super Eagles setup.
A fan favorite anywhere he plays, Olisa Ndah was instrumental to Akwa United’s NPFL title win in the
What he needs is the confidence of the coaches to play his game and in 90 minutes his performance will do the talk and convince the Super Eagles handlers of his ability to stake claim for a place in the team.
In Summary , Super Eagles Head Coach Jose Paseiro has spoken highly of the current squad and expressed delight over the maximum points won , growth as a group, conquering of an historical record , focus on his fundamental values of team spirit and mutual help towards the overall target of improving to achieve set goals.
