Wilfred Ndidi backs other Super Eagles strikers to shine in Osimhen’s absence

Nigeria and Leicester City midfielder, Wilfred Ndidi, believes that the Super Eagles can perform well in the upcoming FIFA World Cup qualification double-header against South Africa and Benin Republic despite the absence of top striker Victor Osimhen.

Ndidi also assured fans that he would be among the early arrivals at the team’s camp in Uyo on June 1.

Osimhen will miss both matches against South Africa on June 7 in Uyo and on June 10 against the Republic of Benin in their adopted home ground in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire, due to injury.

Speaking in Lagos at the New Maracana Complex in Ajegunle, Ndidi expressed confidence in the Super Eagles’ ability to secure the six vital points without Osimhen. While acknowledging Osimhen’s importance to the team, Ndidi highlighted the quality of other strikers who can step up and make an impact.

Wilfred Ndidi, believes that the Super Eagles can perform well in the upcoming FIFA World Cup 26 double-header matches despite the absence of top striker Victor Osimhen.

He emphasised the importance of focusing on the team’s collective effort rather than dwelling on Osimhen’s absence, urging his teammates to give their best and secure victories in the matches.

Ndidi, who has fully recovered from previous injuries that kept him out of the Africa Cup of Nations, expressed belief in the team and newly appointed head coach Finidi George. He praised George’s coaching abilities and expressed optimism about the team’s performance with the support of all Nigerians and the football federation.

He said: “Osimhen is a great player, he’s a hustler. I call him hustler because he plays like a street footballer with strength and strong mentality. There is no doubt that we are going to miss him. He’s quite important to the team because he drives the team forward and he has great impact.

“However, we have many great strikers who can bring their own dynamics into the team and make an impact. It’s all about the team. This is not the time to begin to think about him not been around but to go out there and win the matches and wish him the best as he recovers from his injury.”

During his visit to the Maracana Complex, Ndidi interacted with aspiring young footballers, emphasizing the importance of hard work and dedication. He confirmed his commitment to join the Super Eagles camp on Saturday ahead of the upcoming matches.
