Wilfred Ndidi to miss up to three months

Leicester City’s dynamic midfielder, Wilfred Ndidi, will be absent from the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament with Nigeria, as the player faces upto three months.

This is according to the Leicester City Football club’s manager, Enzo Maresca ahead of his sides visit to The Den to tackle fellow Sky Bet Championship outfit Milwall in the Emirates FA Cup Third Round on Saturday, January 6, 2024.

Ndidi has contributed with two goals and five assists as the Foxes lead the Championship standings with a 10-points gap, however the 27-year-old midfielder’s campaign has taken a disappointing turn with the recent injury setback.

Initially named in Nigeria’s squad for the 2023 AFCON, Ndidi will miss the tournament due to the injury sustained.

“Probably for Wilf, it will be a long time,” Maresca told reporters. “It could be three months. It looks like a muscular problem, but an important one, so we will see in the next hours but the situation for Wilf is probably the clearest one.”

For Kelechi Iheanacho who is still being expected in Nigeria’s AFCON squad, Maresca said he is still injured but getting better.

“I don’t know,” the Italian added. “The only thing I can say it that Kel is still injured. It’s getting better but it’s still not 100 per cent otherwise he would be in the squad for tomorrow and he’s not in the squad.” Maresca said.
