William Troost-Ekong Foundation Donates Football Kits to Academies in Akwa Ibom

The William Troost-Ekong Foundation has donated football kits, boots and balls to several grassroots football academies in Akwa Ibom State as part of efforts to support youth development in the game.

The foundation also presented football kits to the Akwa Ibom State Referees Council, Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Football Coaches Association, Players Union and Local Football Councils to strengthen football administration and development across the state.

The presentation was made through the Akwa Ibom State Football Association on Saturday, December 20, 2025, at the Uyo Township Stadium.

Items were presented by the Chairman of the Akwa Ibom State Football Association, Mr Samuel Umoh, who told the gathering that the donation was made on behalf of former Super Eagles captain and Al Kholood of Saudi Arabia defender, William Troost-Ekong, through his foundation.

Umoh said the initiative was part of Troost-Ekong’s commitment to football development in Akwa Ibom. He highlighted several programmes already carried out by the foundation, including the Under-15 Boys Tournament held earlier this year, the distribution of jerseys and boots to teams, the donation of kits to veteran footballers and other support packages, adding that more initiatives would follow.

The beneficiary academies were Pillars Investors Academy, KMK Academy, Blessed Stars Academy, Dynamic SPMD, Immortality Academy, Indomitable Strikers Academy and NNS Jubilee Academy.

Speaking on behalf of the academies, the proprietor of Indomitable Strikers Academy, Lady Idongesit Mbuk, thanked the William Troost-Ekong Foundation for the donation, describing it as a privilege to benefit from the support.

Also speaking, the Chairman of the Players Union in Akwa Ibom State, Comrade Maurice Silas, appreciated Troost-Ekong for his continuous philanthropic gesture. He described the former Super Eagles captain as a role model who played at the highest level and has continued to give back to the community, praying for more strength for him to excel further in his club career.

Troost-Ekong, the highest-scoring defender in the history of the Africa Cup of Nations, ended his international career with Nigeria on December 4, 2025.

He founded the William Troost-Ekong Foundation in 2024 as a non-profit organisation focused on empowering Nigerian and African youth through football and education.
