William Troost-Ekong resumes full training
In a piece of uplifting news, William Troost-Ekong has resumed full training with his Greek club side PAOK Saloniki, months after undergoing surgery.
The 30-year-old defender underwent surgery shortly after his standout performance at the Africa Cup of Nations in January, where Nigeria finished as runners-up to the hosts.
Despite sustaining a rupture in his right leg’s biceps femoris during the tournament’s second game against Cote d’Ivoire, Ekong displayed remarkable determination and grit, scoring three goals and earning the title of Player of the Tournament.
Following the Afcon, Ekong underwent minor surgery in Finland and took time to recuperate in London before returning to Thessaloniki.
Ekong’s return to full training is timely as PAOK Saloniki enters the crucial stage of the Greek Super League championship play-offs. With PAOK currently in second place, Ekong’s presence in the matchday squads for the remaining matches against top rivals is expected to bolster the team’s pursuit of the title.
Moreover, Ekong’s return to fitness bodes well for the Nigerian national team, the Super Eagles, as they prepare for upcoming World Cup qualifying matches under the guidance of new head coach Finidi George.
