William Troost-Ekong scores match-winner for PAOK in Champions League Playoffs

Super Eagles defender William Troost-Ekong delivered a crucial goal, securing a first-leg win for PAOK Thessaloniki in their UEFA Champions League qualifying clash against Bosnian side Borac Banja Luka.

PAOK, having earned their spot in Round 2 of the UCL qualifying playoffs by winning the Greek top division, hosted the first leg. Thanks to Ekong’s decisive strike, they now hold a 3-2 advantage going into the second leg.

The match began with PAOK’s young defender Konstantinos Koulierakis opening the scoring in the 17th minute. However, Borac quickly responded, with Sebastian Herrera equalizing from the penalty spot five minutes later.

Koulierakis restored PAOK’s lead in the 39th minute, but Enver Kulasin brought Borac level again just before half-time.

Early in the second half, Ekong emulated his defensive partner by scoring the decisive goal in the 50th minute. His leadership and defensive skills ensured PAOK maintained their lead for the rest of the match.

Ekong’s goal continues his trend of delivering in critical moments, as seen in his performances for the Super Eagles at the AFCON earlier this year.

PAOK will look to maintain their advantage in the second leg and advance further in the Champions League qualifying rounds.
