Williamson shrugs off finger injury

Broken finger or otherwise, New Zealand batsman Kane Williamson has set his sights on another good performance against Sri Lanka.

The top-order batsman is set to line up in an unchanged New Zealand side for the second Test against Sri Lanka starting in Hamilton on Friday.

“That’s a very good question,” Williamson said when asked at a news conference on Thursday if his finger was broken.

“It’s just quite sore.”

Williamson admitted the injury had forced him to leave the nets, but said it was just part of the game.

“It’s just part and parcel of cricket really, you get a few knocks,” Williamson said.

“When it doesn’t get hit it settles a bit and gets less sensitive, but it’s just something I need to manage.

“I don’t think many people play at 100 per cent every day and it’s just the nature of the sport.”

Despite being uncomfortable, the injury has not had a massive effect on Williamson’s form.

He scored 88 and 71 for the Black Caps against Sri Lanka in the first Test.
