Liverpool’s nightmare season took a turn for the worse after they lost a sixth consecutive home game by a single goal against lowly Fulham at Anfield on Sunday.
Jurgen Klopp fielded a very different side from the one that was defeated by Chelsea last time out, handing starts to youngsters Rhys Williams, Neco Williams, Nat Phillips, and there were also starts for Naby Keita and Xherdan Shaqiri, as well as the fit-again Diogo Jota. Liverpool once again struggled to find any fluency in their attacks during the game, and they eventually found themselves behind on the cusp of halftime. Fulham midfielder, Mario Lemina snatched the ball from a slumbering Mohamed Salah at the edge of the Liverpool penalty area following a Fulham freekick and struck it low and hard into the bottom corner for the game’s only goal.
The defeat was Liverpool’s sixth in a row at home this season, and they have only scored once at Anfield in 2021. They remain in 7th place, only 5 points ahead of 10th placed Arsenal who have played a game less. Liverpool manager, Jurgen Klopp now finds himself under much more pressure as their chances of securing Champions League football seem to be slipping away.
