Women’s World Cup: Joseph Dosu backs Super Falcons to push past England
Joseph Dosu is backing Nigeria’s Super Falcons to push past England when they meet in a 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup last-16 clash on Monday August 7.
A goalless draw vs Republic of Ireland ensured the Super Falcons on Nigeria finished second with five points behind Australia who spanked Canada 4-0 to top group B.
With the place in the last-16 booked, Randy Waldrum tutored Nigerian ladies did wait for 24-hrs for confirmation of their next opponents.
European Champions England defeated China 6-1 to top group D and so set up a clash against Nigeria who according to 1996 Atlanta Olympics gold medalist Joseph Dosu will be spurred on to victory by the underdog tag.
He said ” This is a mouth-watering clash and a big test for the Super Falcons in the 2023 Women’s World Cup.
“I know some football pundits will tip England as favourite to overcome Nigeria but this is a type of game that will spur the Super Falcons players up and give them the extra push to defeat England, ” Dosu reasoned.
That Nigeria, the lowest ranked in group B managed to emerge without defeat pays credence to their fighting spirit at the ongoing FIFA Women’s World Cup.
A win for Nigeria will represent one of the biggest upsets of the tournament as the Lauren James inspired England ladies will head into the clash as heavyweights and favourites.
The Nigeria vs England will take place at the Lang Park Stadium in Brisbane, Australia on Monday August 7, 2023.
