Wydad, and Al Ahly secure big CAFCL semifinal first-leg win against Petro and ES Setif

Al Ahly of Egypt and Wydad Casablanca of Morocco have taken big steps toward playing in the 2021/2022 CAF Champions League final after securing big semifinal first leg wins against ES Sétif and Petro Atletico respectively.

Percy Tau was the star man for Al Ahly who won their first leg encounter against ES Sétif 4-0 in Egypt. The Southafrican scored two goals and assisted two other goals scored by Taher Mohamed, Mohamed Sherif.

Al Ahly could be playing in their third consecutive CAF Champions League final while Pitso Mosimane could be playing in his fourth final.

The Southafrican manager led Al Ahly to the last two CAF Champions League finals – he has won three CAF Champions League titles, one with Mamelodi Sundowns in 2015/16, two with Al Ahly in 2019/2020 and 2020/2021.

In the other semifinal, Wydad Casablanca secured a 3-1 away win against Petro Atletico. An own goal from Tiago Azulao, Yahya Jabrane, and Guy Mbenza goals gave the visitors the 3-0 lead.

But the home team through Job pulled one back.

The second leg will see Wydad Casablanca host Petro Atletico in Morocco, while Al Ahly travel to Algeria to face ES Setif.

The games will be played next week Saturday the 14th of May.
