Xavi continues good record against Madrid as Barça claim #ElClasico first leg win
In Copa del Rey semifinal game at Bernabeau
Coach Xavi Hernandez has continued his good record for Barcelona against Real Madrid with another El Clasico win in the Copa del Rey semifinal first-leg game at Santiago Bernabeu on Thursday.
The Spanish manager who was the subject of conversation over his poor record with Barcelona can be very proud of his record against the club’s biggest rivals.
Eder Militao’s own goal was enough to hand Barcelona the 1-0 win at Santiago Bernabeu for their fourth win in five Clasico at Real Madrid’s famous ground.
‘Xavi Hernandez’ record at the Bernabeu, as manager of FC Barcelona:
Real Madrid 0-4 Barcelona ✅
Real Madrid 0-1 Barcelona ✅
Real Madrid 3-1 Barcelona ❌
Real Madrid 1-3 Barcelona ✅
Real Madrid 0-1 Barcelona ✅
Real Madrid had the most ball possession 65% to Bracelona’s 35% but it was the Blaugranas who took the day.
In fact, Real Madrid had zero shots on target despite their higher possession and 6 shot attempts, 5 of which were blocked by Barcelona.
Barcelona on their part scored from their only shot which was on target.
Xavi Hernandez and his Barcelona will take the slim 1-0 lead into the Copa del Rey second leg which will be played at Camp Nou on April 5th.
Despite playing with many of their key players such as Roberto Lewandowski, Gavi, Ousmane Dembele, and Pedri, Xavi, and Barcelona took the win.
Xavi Hernandez also becomes just the third manager in Barcelona history to beat Real Madrid in three different competitions during their first two seasons.
He has done it in La Liga, Supercup, and Copa del Rey in just two years as Barcelona’s manager.
