Yobo Backs Ola Aina for Manchester City Move, Calls It “Good News for Nigeria”

Former Super Eagles captain Joseph Yobo has shown strong support for a possible move by Nottingham Forest defender Ola Aina to Manchester City.

Speaking to Africafoot, Yobo described Aina as one of the best right-backs in the Premier League this season and said a switch to Pep Guardiola’s side would be a big step forward for both the player and Nigerian football.

“Aina is currently one of the top three right-backs in the Premier League, and joining Manchester City wouldn’t surprise me at all,” Yobo said. “It would be a masterstroke for both the player and Manchester City. He’s an imposing defender but also an excellent attacker, something Guardiola looks for in his full-backs.”

Yobo, who also played for Everton and Fenerbahce during his career, believes Aina would become an even better player under Pep Guardiola.
“Aina would improve his game by working with the best coach in the world,” Yobo added.

While praising Aina’s potential move to the Premier League champions, Yobo admitted there is one downside.
“To be honest, this would only be good news for Nigeria,” he said. “The only downside to this move is that Nottingham Forest would lose a key player for free. It’s surprising they allowed his contract to run down.”

Aina joined Nottingham Forest on a one-year deal in the summer of 2023 after leaving Italian club Torino. His consistent performances this season have attracted interest from top clubs, including Manchester City.

With his contract ending this summer, Aina is expected to be one of the most sought-after free agents in the next transfer window.
