Super Eagles captain Ahmed Musa has taken to social media to hail Mikel Obi for the great things he achieved in his career following his retirement from active football .
Mikel Obi on Tuesday September 27 announced his retirement from active football , during which time he achieved success to become the most decorated Nigerian footballer in history .
Ahmed Musa who succeeded Mikel Obi as Skipper of the Super Eagles after his retirement from international football in 2019 was full of praise for the Midfielders exemplary career path.
Musa wrote
” You have been an exemplary player and done great things in your career. Here’s wishing you the best as you retire today. Cheers to bigger things ahead and best wishes to you and the family. @mikel_john_obi ❤️🎉👏 ”
A relationship of mutual respect for one another is what Mikel Obi and Ahmed Musa shared during his time with the Eagles .
In March 2015, Ahmed Musa was controversially announced Captain of the national team by then Super Eagles coach Sunday Oliseh .
Oliseh stripped veteran goalkepeer Vincent Enyeama of the armband and handed same to Musa ahead of the more experienced Mikel Obi .
When Samson Siasia succeeded Oliseh as head coach in 2016 , Musa voluntarily handed over the armband to Mikel Obi , a decision which endeared the forward to most Nigerian fans .
By the time Mikel Obi retired from international football , Ahmed Musa took over the armband and has gone on to become the most capped Super Eagles player in history .
