‘You need luck in football’ – Calvin Bassey reflects on Fulham’s defeat to Manchester United
Fulham defender Calvin Bassey expressed his frustration after his side’s 1-0 loss to Manchester United at Craven Cottage, stating that the team deserved more from the match.
Despite dominating much of the game, Marco Silva’s side was unable to take their chances, with Lisandro Martinez’s deflected shot in the dying moments securing all three points for United.
Bassey acknowledged his team’s efforts but pointed out that sometimes football is down to luck. “I thought we deserved more. We controlled the game, and it wasn’t our day,” the Nigerian international said in an interview with TNT Sports.
He went on to emphasise the role of luck in football, adding, “You need a bit of luck in football, and it didn’t come our way today.”
Bassey also mentioned that United didn’t create many chances to trouble Fulham, yet the Whites couldn’t capitalise on their own opportunities. “We had a lot of chances; maybe in the final part at the end could have been better,” he said, reflecting on what could have been a different outcome with a bit more luck.
