Zamalek head coach Jose Gomes confident ahead of Enyimba clash: “We Are Not Scared”

Zamalek head coach, Jose Gomes, has made it clear that his side is not intimidated by Enyimba FC ahead of their upcoming CAF Confederation Cup Group D clash on Sunday at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium.

Despite acknowledging the strength of the Nigerian side, Gomes declared that Zamalek are focused on extending their winning start to the tournament.

In a pre-match interview, Gomes praised Enyimba’s squad, calling them a “very good team” with talented players. However, he emphasized that Zamalek are fully prepared and confident in their abilities.

“We are not scared of Enyimba. Yes, they have good players, but we are Zamalek, and we know how to handle pressure. We have our strategy, and we are focused on winning the game,” Gomes said.

The Egyptian giants come into the match with momentum after a solid 2-0 victory over Black Bulls of Mozambique in their opening group match. Zamalek, the reigning Confederation Cup champions, sit atop Group D, level on points with Masry, who also won their opening fixture.

Zamalek has a strong record against Nigerian teams, having won four of their six previous encounters, including two victories over Enyimba in the 2016 CAF Champions League group stage. This history adds to their confidence as they prepare to face Enyimba in Nigeria.

Gomes added, “We respect Enyimba, but we believe in our team. Our goal is to continue our good form and maintain our position at the top of the group. This is an important match for us.”

Enyimba, on the other hand, will be looking to bounce back from their 2-0 defeat to Masry in their opening match. The Nigerian side will be relying on home advantage to claim their first points of the campaign and stay in contention for progression.

Sunday’s encounter is set to be a crucial match in Group D, with both teams aiming for a positive result. Zamalek will be hoping to extend their unbeaten run, while Enyimba will be desperate for a turnaround.

With the stage set for an exciting battle, both teams are ready for a thrilling contest that could have major implications for Group D’s standings.
