Zimbabwe Coach Urges Players to Stay Focused Against Nigeria
The head coach of Zimbabwe’s national team, Michael Nees, has told his players to stay focused and strong when they play against the Super Eagles of Nigeria on Tuesday.
Nigeria will host Zimbabwe in a 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying match at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo on Tuesday evening.
Zimbabwe go into the match after a 2-2 draw with Benin Republic, while Nigeria recently beat Rwanda 2-0 away from home.
Speaking after Zimbabwe’s training session in Uyo on Sunday, Coach Nees encouraged his players not to be afraid of Nigeria.
“It will be an exciting match. We need to play at our best, no doubt. Nigeria are strong opponents and will give everything, but we must do the same,” Nees told the team’s media.
He added,
“The players must accept the challenge—the weather, the pace of the game, and the conditions—and enjoy it. They should not be afraid. There’s no reason to be. We can play football.”
“We will study Nigeria and also look at how we can improve our game. The players need to believe in themselves. There’s no need to be nervous.”
Coach Nees praised his team, saying they have shown many times that they are good players with strong character.
“I am really looking forward to this game,” he said.
