Zimbabwean anti-Mugabe demonstrators take ‘Wenger Out’ sign to protest march

One is an aging leader who has been criticised for clinging onto power for too long, and the other is Robert Mugabe.

While it would be somewhat churlish to compare Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger to the president of Zimbabwe, the presence of a ‘Wenger Out’ sign shows the cultural significance of the Frenchman.

Celebrations have begun in Harare, as well as north London for the Gunners faithful, after claiming the spoils in the north London derby against Tottenham.

The army takeover of Zimbabwe looks to have ended Mugabe’s reign, yet the Gunners faithful naturally seized their opportunity to voice their views amidst political turmoil.

The signs have become a common sight around the world with Wenger’s 21-year stay at Arsenal dividing the fanbase.

As one dictatorship ends, disgruntled Gooners might have to wait a little longer for another to follow.

With two seasons remaining on Wenger’s contract and a boost from grabbing bragging rights today, the Frenchman would likely win at the polls right now.
