Zimbabwe’s free-kick goal-scorer in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier vs Nigeria, Walter Musona has revealed the motivaton behind the 30-yard attempt.
In the first half of the game at the Huye Stadium, Musona struck a free-kick from 30-yards to beat a full-stretched Francis Uzoho in goal for the Super Eagles of Nigeria.
That goal gave the Warriors of Zimbabwe hope of a first win over Nigeria since 1981 but Leicester City forward Kelechi Iheanacho equalized for the Eagles as it finished 1-1 in the World Cup qualification matchday two fixture.
After the game which meant both countries begin their qualification campaign with consecutive draws, Musona revealed the motivation of having supportive teammates plus the ambition to see the team get better with time.

“I’m taking it game by game. We need to spend more time together, to get the combinations right,” he said in a short video interview posted on the official X handle of the Zimbabwe Football Association.
