Afcon Qualifier: Egyptian FA not aware of Nigeria-Egypt tie postponement

Egyptian Football Association (EFA) officials said they have not received any notification on the postponement of the African Cup of Nations Cup qualifiers between the Super Eagles and the Pharaohs originally billed for March 23.

The Nigeria Football Federation claimed that it has received the African soccer ruling body, CAF’s blessing to shift the game from March 23 to 26 to enable it get the match venue, Ahmed Bello Stadium ready.

“No official letters have been received yet regarding the Nigeria-Egypt game’s rescheduling and we’ll announce when we get confirmation,” the association board member Ehab Lehitah said on the EFA official website.

 

The match is a must win for the Super Eagles if they hope to qualify for the 2017 AFCON. But it seems the postponement will benefit the Pharaohs as it will give their players ample time to rest after a heavy schedule involving their players in continental soccer contest. Key players from Ahly and Zamalek clubs have commitments between 18-20 March, a week before the two-leg national teams clash.

Egypt will host the reverse leg tie on March 28 in Cairo.
