Manchester United request Liverpool kickoff change

Manchester United have reportedly written to UEFA to request a later kickoff for their Europa League clash with Liverpool.

The Premier League heavyweights were drawn against each other in the standout tie of the competition’s last-16-round, with the first leg due to be played at Anfield at 8.05pm on Thursday, March 10.

The deciding leg is currently scheduled for a 6pm start at Old Trafford one week later – a time United believes will discriminate against its fans attempting to get to the game after work.

A further complication is that the game falls on St Patrick’s Day, meaning that the Manchester rush hour will be busier than usual due to celebrations in the city centre.

According to The Mirror, Greater Manchester Police have traffic safety concerns about an early kickoff and will be involved in the discussions to switch the fixture to a later time.

If the game is allowed to be played at 8.05pm, it would clash with Tottenham Hotspur’s decider against Borussia Dortmund at White Hart Lane.
