Five best sporting moments of the past week

The past week saw Barcelona broke Real Madrid’s unbeaten Spanish record of 34 and went on to set a new record of 36 in all competition with their 5-1 victory over Rayo Vallecano and 4-o away win over Eibar.

Away from Barcelona’s record, here are top 5 best moments of the past week.

1. Adam Scott back to back wins

Scott was six shots adrift of leader Rory McIlroy during the final round but the in-form Australian held his nerve as he rallied to a one-stroke triumph on Sunday, a week on from his success at The Honda Classic.

Adam Scott joins Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy as the latest players to win back-to-back weeks on the PGA TOUR.

The 13-time Tour winner, who had double bogeys at the third and fifth holes on the front nine, birdied six of his remaining 13 holes to edge out three-time runner-up Bubba Watson in Miami, Florida.

2. Lakers historic win over Warriors

The Los Angeles Lakers beat the Golden State Warriors 112-95, handing the league’s top team just their sixth loss of the season in one of the biggest upsets in NBA regular-season history.

Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson struggled offensively, shooting a combined 13-for-40 from the field and just one-for-18 from three-point range – the duo’s worst combined three-point shooting game as team-mates.

Conversely, the Lakers’ young backcourt played a brilliant game as Jordan Clarkson scored 25 points on 10-for-21 shooting and rookie D’Angelo Russell added 21 points.

Kobe Bryant contributed 12 points in 24 minutes.

3. India win Asia Cup

An eight-wicket win over Bangladesh on Sunday saw India clinch the trophy for the first time since 2010.

4. Arsene Wenger becomes Europe’s longest-serving manager

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is now the longest-serving manager in European football following Ronnie McFall‘s resignation from Portadown.

McFall took over at the Northern Irish side, which plays in the NIFL Premiership, in 1986 but quit on Saturday after the club exited the Irish Cup at the quarter-final stage.

5. Wiggins, Cavendish and Trott excel on golden day for Great Britain

Bradley Wiggins and Mark Cavendish raised the roof by winning gold the final race at the UCI Track Cycling World Championships on Sunday after Laura Trott had claimed another rainbow jersey for Great Britain in London.

The stage was set for British cycling greats Wiggins and Cavendish to put the icing on the cake in what has been a great week for the hosts and the duo did not disappoint a raucous crowd at the Lee Valley VeloPark.
