I am a beast – Brook confident he can cope with step up to Golovkin

Kell Brook is not concerned about stepping up two weight divisions to face the formidable Gennady Golovkin.

On Friday it was announced that Brook would take on the IBF, WBA, WBC and IBO middleweight champion at London’s O2 Arena on September 10.

Brook will put on almost a stone for the clash and will face a daunting challenge against the man many regard as the best pound-four-pound fighter in the world.

But Brook is in no mood to back down, and believes he has what it takes to match Golovkin, who is 35-0 with 32 of those wins coming way of knockout.

“Ask any of my sparring partners – I’m a beast [at 160 lbs], I’m a different animal,” Brook told Sky Sports.

“What it takes for me to get down to 147 is really hard. So I’ll be eating well and be fuelled and push myself even more. I’m going to shock a lot of people.

“My strength is proving unbelievable and I’ve got many more weeks to go so I’m going to be frightening on fight night.

“I’m an animal. I’m a beast at these higher weights. I can’t wait to test myself. I’m excited to see what I can do. I’m coming up a weight now and we’re going to shock the world on the 10th of September.

“People say I won’t step up, Canelo [Alvarez] gave up his world title to avoid him. They are all running away from him, I’m running towards him and I want to show the world what I can do – you’re going to see an upset.

“As crazy as it sounds, I’m looking forward to feeling his power.”
