Pakistan beat England by 75 runs to win first Test at Lord’s

Pakistan have taken a 1-0 lead in their four-Test series of England courtesy of a 75-run victory at Lord’s.

The hosts made a positive start in morning session, with Pakistan only able to add a single run to their overnight total as Yasir Shah and Mohammad Amir were both dismissed by Stuart Broad.

That left England with a target of 283 to win, but their chase got off to a slow start as they slumped to 47-3, with Alastair Cook (8), Alex Hales (16) and Joe Root (9) all failing to make significant scores before being dismissed by Rahat Ali.

James Vince and Gary Ballance steadied the ship somewhat, but both were sent back to the Pavilion in their 40s, while Jonny Bairstow (48) also fell just short of his half-century.

Yasir had done most of the damage in the first innings, and that was again the case in the second as Moeen Ali (2) and Chris Woakes (23) were sent packing, with Yasir becoming the first wrist spinner to ever take 10 wickets in a Test match at Lord’s.

Controversial returning bowler Amir had the final say when he dismissed Jake Ball to clinch the victory, with England finishing on 207 to leave them 75 runs short.
