Golovkin vows to give the UK a ´present´ against Brook

Gennady Golovkin has vowed to “bring a present” to the United Kingdom when he faces what he considers the biggest test of his career against Kell Brook next month.

The unbeaten Kazakh will fight in England for the first time when he puts his WBA, WBC, IBF and IBO world middleweight titles on the line at London’s O2 Arena.

Golovkin is regarded as boxing’s pound-for-pound king, a moniker earned by his unbeaten record in 35 fights with 32 of those wins coming via knockout.

Brook, the IBF welterweight world champion, is also unbeaten in 36 bouts but many regard the Sheffield fighter as the underdog due to the fact he is stepping up two weight divisions.

But Golovkin is taking nothing for granted as he bids to put on a show in front an excited British crowd.

“I’m very excited, I’m very happy to be here,” Golovkin told a news conference on Monday.

“I can give true fans, UK fans, an amazing event. This is the biggest fight for us, I respect Kell, he has a very good team.

“I understand this isn’t easy, this is very serious business for us. I’m ready 100 per cent, I believe I bring an amazing show, a big event, a big drama show.

“This is the biggest test for me. Kell is a true champion, right now he’s coming to middleweight. I remember Manny Pacquiao’s fights with [Antonio] Margarito and [Oscar] De La Hoya. This is the biggest test for me.

“I’m not scared, I understand this is business. I respect sport, I respect boxing. This is a chance to bring a present to the UK.”

Tickets for the fight sold out in just 11 minutes last month.
