Great Britain‘s Olympic athletes will wear illuminated shoes at the Rio Games closing ceremony on Sunday night, it has been revealed.

The curtain-closing event at the Maracana will see Team GB celebrate their largest ever haul of medals at an overseas Olympics and potentially a second-place finish in the table.

Accrington-based clothing manufacturer Simon Jersey has designed the athletes’ red, white and blue outfits, which feature shoes encrusted with USB-charged flashing bulbs.

According to BBC Sport, the Team GB jacket will also feature a “thank you” to Brazil, written in Portuguese, and a “hello” to Tokyo, the host nation of the next Olympics in 2020.
