2019 NBA Draft: Three Nigerians picked as Rui Hachimura and Bruno Fernando make history
Three players of Nigerian descent have been selected with draft picks at the 2019 NBA draft.
Three players of Nigerian descent have been selected at the 2019 NBA draft.
Chuma Okeke, Chikezie Okpala and Olumiye Oni were selected in the first and second rounds alongside 57 other basketball prospects.
Chuma Okeke was picked in the first round with pick 16, Chikezie Okpala with pick 32 and Olumiye Oni with pick 58.
Chuma Okeke, a power forward, was drafted by Orlando Magic where he would link up with Wesley Iwundu another player of Nigeria descent.
Chikezie Okpala, a small forward, was selected by Phoenix Suns and Olumiye Oni a shooting guard was selected by the Golden State Warriors.
- Rui Hachimura was selected with pick no 9 by Washington Wizards to become the first ever Japanese NBA draft pick!
- Bruno Fernando was selected by Atalanta Hawk with pick 34 to become the first ever Angolan NBA draft pick.
