2022 French Open Day Eight: Nadal, Djokovic set up blockbuster quarterfinal clash

Alcaraz, Gauff also through to last eight in Roland Garros

Action continued from the 2022 French Open as it reached its eighth day in Paris.

World number one Novak Djokovic booked his place in the quarterfinals of the competition with  straight sets victory over 15th seeded Argentine Diego Schwartzmann. The Serb claimed a 6-1 6-3 6-3 over his Round of 16 opponent.

Fifth seed Rafael Nadal was pushed to the brink by young Canadian ninth seed Felix Auger-Aliassime in the Round of of 16 clash, with the experienced Spaniard eventually winning in five sets. Nadal won 3-6 6-3 6-2 3-6 6-3 to book his place in the quarterfinals, where he will face long-time adversary Djokovic for a place in the last four of the 2022 French Open.

Teenage sensation Carlos Alcaraz Garfia showed a good level to claim a straight sets win over 21st seed Karen Khachanov. The 19-year-old Spaniard won 6-1 6-4 6-4 to book his place in the last eight.

Third seed Alexander Zverev defeated unseeded Spaniard Bernabe Zapata Miralles in straight sets 7-6 7-5 6-3 to book a quarterfinal meeting with sixth seed Carlos Alcaraz Garfia at the 2022 French Open.

In the women’s side of the draw, 18-year-old Coco Gauff qualified for her second French Open quarterfinals after claiming a straight sets win over Elise Martens in the Round of 16. The young American claimed a 6-4 6-0 win in the match.

Sloane Stephens secured her place in the last eight of the tournament after a straight sets 6-2 6-0 win over 23rd seed Jil Teichmann in their Round of 16 encounter.

Leylah Fernandez needed three sets to defeat Amanda Anisimova 6-3 4-6 6-3 and book her place in the last eight of this year’s French Open, the second of her career.

Italy’s Martina Trevisan overcame Aliaksandra Sasnovich in straight sets 7-6 7-5 to qualify for the quarterfinals of the French Open for only the second time in her career.
