2022 French Open Day Five: Medvedev, Swiatek ease into third round

Tsitsipas' struggles continue as Halep loses second round match

Action from the 2022 French Open continued as the competition reached its fifth day.

World number two Daniil Medvedev booked his place in the third round of the competition following a straight sets victory over Laslo Dere. The match ended 6-3 6-4 6-3 in favour of the 2021 US Open champion.

World number four Stefanos Tsitsipas continued his struggles in the competition as he needed four sets to overcome unseeded Zdenek Kolar. The Greek star won the match 6-3 7-6 6-7 7-6 to qualify for the third round.

Seventh seed Andrey Rublev defeated Federico Delbonis 6-3 3-6 6-2 6-3 to book his place in the third round of the 2022 French Open.

Belgian star David Goffin defeated America’s Frances Tiafoe after a one-set deficit, claiming a 3-6 7-6 6-2 6-4 win to qualify for the third round of the French Open.

11th seed Jannik Sinner came from a set down to defeat unseeded Spaniard Roberto Carballes Baena. The Italian won 3-6 6-4 6-4 6-3 to book his place in the third round of the competition.

In the women’s draw, World number one Iga Swiatek claimed her 30th consecutive win by swatting Alison Riske aside in straight sets 6-0 6-2 to qualify for the third round of the French Open.

Simona Halep suffered a panic attack as she lost a one-set lead to fall to a defeat against China’s Qinwen Zheng in their second round meeting at the French Open. The former World number one lost 6-2 2-6 1-6 against her unseeded teenage opponent.

French wildcard Leolia Jeanjean claimed a shock win over eighth seed Karolina Pliskova to qualify for the third round of the French Open. The world number 227 claimed a 6-2 6-2 straight sets win to stun the tennis world.

Third seed Paula Badosa defeated unseeded Kaja Juvan 7-5 3-6 6-2 to book her place in the third round of the tournament.

Aryna Sabalenka defeated America’s Madison Brengle in the second round at the French Open to qualify for the third round. The seventh seed claimed a 6-1 6-3 win in straight sets.
