2022 French Open Day Four: Nadal, Djokovic ease into third round as Alcaraz struggles

Raducanu, Sakkari, Andreescu dumped out in second round

Fifth seed Rafael Nadal kept alive hopes of winning a record-extending 22nd Grand Slam crown as he eased past Frenchman Corentin Moutet in straight sets 6-3 6-1 6-4 to book his place in the third round of the 2022 French Open.

World number one Novak Djokovic joined his rival Nadal in the third round of the 2022 French Open as he bids to defend the title he won in 2021. The Serb claimed a straight sets victory over Alex Molcan in their second round encounter. The match ended 6-2 6-3 7-6 to Djokovic.

Spanish teenage sensation and sixth seed Carlos Alcaraz Garfia was tested by veteran countryman Albert Ramos-Vinolas in their second round meeting. The 19-year-old prodigy had to fight back from one set down to book his place in the third round of the competition. The match ended 6-1 6-7 5-7 7-6 6-4 as Alcaraz Garfia showed his tenacity and grit to beat an opponent almost twice his age.

German third seed Alexander Zverev came back from two sets down to defeat Sebastian Baez and book his place in the third round of the French Open. Zverev won the match 2-6 4-6 6-1 6-2 7-5 to escape what would have been an embarrassing upset in the second round of the competition.

13th seed Taylor Fritz was sent packing by unseeded Bernabe Zapata Miralles in the second round of the competition despite starting the match strongly. Miralles had to come back from a set down to win 3-6 6-2 6-2 6-3 and progress to the third round.

On the women’s side of the competition, British number one and 12th seed Emma Raducanu saw her Roland Garros debut end in the second round after she lost to Aliaksandra Sasnovich in three sets 6-3 1-6 1-6.

Karolina Muchova stunned world number four Maria Sakkari, defeating the Greek star in straight sets 7-6 7-6 to book her place in the third round of the 2022 French Open.

Teenage American star Coco Gauff defeated Alison Van Uytvanck in straight sets 6-1 7-6 to progress to the third round of the French Open.

2021 US Open finalist Leah Fernandez continued her march in the French Open by claiming a 6-3 6-2 straight sets win over Katarina Siniakova to book her third-round place.

Swiss star Belinda Bencic defeated Bianca Andreescu 6-2 6-4 in straight sets to qualify for the third round of the 2022 French Open.
