2022 French Open Day Seven: Tsitsipas, Medvedev, Swiatek through to last 16

Badosa, Sabalenka knocked out of French Open

Greek world number four Stefanos Tsitsipas finally had a quiet day in the office at the 2022 French Open as he defeated unseeded Swede Mikael Ymer in straight sets 6-2 6-2 6-1 to book his place in the last 16 of the competition.

World number two Daniil Medvedev qualified for the Round of 16 of the competition after a straight sets win over Serb 28th seed Miomir Kecmanovic. The match ended 6-2 6-4 6-2 in favour of the Russian Medvedev.

World number seven Andrey Rublev booked his place in the Round of 16 of the 2022 French Open following his win over Chile’s Cristian Garin 6-4 3-6 6-2 7-6 in the third round of the tournament in Paris.

Hubert Hurkacz defeated David Goffin in straight sets 7-5 6-2 6-1 to book his place in the last 16 at Roland Garros.

Norway’s eighth seed Casper Ruud came through a tough contest against Lorenzo Sonego to reach the Round of 16 of the competition. The Norwegian star won 6-2 6-7 1-6 6-4 6-3 in a match that lasted nearly three and a half hours in Paris.

In the women’s draw, World number one Iga Swiatek continued to progress in the competition as she qualified for the Round of 16 following a straight sets win over Danka Kovinic. The match ended 6-3 7-5 to the Polish player. It was her 31st consecutive win.

29th seed Veronika Kudermetova knocked out third seed Paula Badosa after the Spaniard was forced to retire in the second set with an apparent leg injury. Kudermetova had a 6-3 2-1 lead by the time Badosa was declared unfit to continue the match. The 29th seed will proceed to the last 16 of the competition.

Camila Giorgi came from a set down to defeat seventh seed Aryna Sabalenka 4-6 6-1 6-0 to qualify for the Round of 16 of the 2022 French Open.

11th seed Jessica Pegula defeated Tamara Zidansek in straight sets to qualify for the last 16 of the 2022 French Open. The American claimed a 6-1 7-6 win in the match.

22nd seed Madison Keys came from a set down to knock out Elena Rybakina in their 2022 French Open third round meeting. The American won 3-6 6-1 7-6 to qualify for the Round of 16.
