2022 Onna Marathon Unveiled As Registration Begins.

The second edition of the ONNA Marathon has been officially unveiled.

 

The unveiling ceremony took place last Saturday at Ndon Eyo junction by park, Ikot Abasi-Eket Highway, ONNA Local Government Area.

 

Speaking at the ceremony, the Initiator of the 2022 ONNA Marathon, Bassey Akpan said the main purpose for the ONNA Marathon is to raise funds to build a Free Skills Transfer hub which will be situated in ONNA Local Government Area.

He said marathon will help harness the economic growth, boost, encourage and open Akwa Ibom State tourism potential to the world.

 

Akpan, noted that the marathon will also help showcase the developmental strive of the government, fulfill industrialization promises as well as the showcasing the rich cultural heritage of Akwa Ibom State.

 

According to him “The Skill Transfer Hub will serve a great deal in training and retraining of our youth; while the marathon will be an encourager to our people to understand the opportunities that are embedded in sports if they engage, the health benefits of exercise, preparation ground for future marathons and other sporting activities”.

 

Bassey Akpan said registration for the race had began online at www.onnamarathon.com.ng with a payment of #1,000 (One thousand Naira only) in any Nigerian bank with details provided in the website.

 

The Technical Director of ONNA Marathon, Coach Daniel Umoette said the race will consist of two categories namely; Open and Indigenous categories.

 

He said Open category will have winning bonuses for the first 10 male and female runners which are;1st – #500,000, 2nd – #300,000, 3rd – #200,000, 4th -#70,000, 5th – #60,000, 6th – #50,000, 7th – #40,000, 8th – #30,000, 9th – #20,000 and 10th position will go home with #10,000.

 

Coach Daniel Umoette also disclosed that the Indigenous category which is mainly for the indigenes of ONNA, the 1st position will go home with #300,000, 2nd – #200,000, 3rd – #100,000, 4th – #40,000, 5th – #30,000, 6th – #20,000 and the 7th position will win #10,000.

 

The race will hold on 8th October, 2022, and it is powered by Impact Life Medical Foundation in partnership with Akwa Ibom State Athletic Association.
