Action from the 2022 US Open continued as some of the tournament’s top seeded players continued to progress.
In the men’s draw, fifth seed Casper Ruud booked his place in the quarterfinals of the tournament with a win over Frenchman Corentin Moutet. The Norwegian required four sets to overcome Moutet 6-1 6-2 6-7 6-2 and reach the last eight.
Karen Khachanov also booked his place in the last eight in New York after a five-set thriller against Pablo Carreno Busta. Khachanov defeated Busta 4-6 6-3 6-1 4-6 6-3 to seal a quarterfinal place.
Matteo Berrettini defeated Alejandro Davidovich Fokina to qualify for the quarterfinals at Flushing Meadow. The Italian needed five sets to dispatch his Spanish opponent, claiming a 3-6 7-6 6-3 4-6 6-2 win to progress.
Jannik Sinner overcame Brandon Nakashima to qualify for the Round of 16 of the 2022 US Open. The Italian recovered from a set down to claim a 3-6 6-4 6-1 6-2 win over his American opponent.
Rafael Nadal defeated Richard Gasquet in their third round meeting at Flushing Meadow. The second seed claimed a straight sets win over his French opponent to reach the last 16 in style. Nadal won the match 6-0 6-1 7-5.
In the women’s draw, Coco Gauff booked her place in the quarterfinals of the US Open after a straight sets win over Zhang Shuai. The 18-year-old claimed a 7-5 7-5 win over her Chinese opponent.
World number one Iga Swiatek brushed America’s Lauren Davis aside in straight sets to reach the last 16 in New York. The Pole claimed a 6-3 6-4 win over Davis.
Sixth seed Aryna Sabalenka qualified for the Round of 16 of the 2022 US Open after a straight sets win over Clara Burel. Sabalenka claimed a 6-0 6-2 win over the Frenchwoman.
After knocking out the reigning champion, Alize Cornet saw her US Open run come to an end against Danielle Collins. Collins defeated the veteran Frenchwoman in straight sets 6-4 7-6 to qualify for the last 16.
Caroline Garcia claimed a straight sets win over American Alison Riske-Amritraj to qualify for the last 16. Garcia defeated her opponent 6-4 6-1.
