2022 Wimbledon Day Four Recap: Swiatek extends record run as Nadal, Gauff progress

Shapovalov, Schwartzmann suffer second round exit

Iga Swiatek extended her perfect run to 37 wins in a row after she defeated Lesley Pattinama Kerkhove in three sets in their 2022 Wimbledon second round match. The World number one claimed a 6-4 4-6 6-3 win to progress to the third round.

Coco Gauff continued her impressive form as she claimed a straight sets win over Romania’s Mihaela Buzarnescu. The 18-year-old was too good for her opponent and won 6-2 6-3 to progress to the third round.

After overcoming the legendary Serena Williams in Round 1, Harmony Tan progressed to the third round by claiming the scalp of Sara Sorribes Tormo in straight sets 6-3 6-4.

Katie Boulter recovered from a set down to defeat sixth seed Karolina Pliskova and book her place in the third round of the competition. The Brit claimed a 3-6 7-6 6-4 win over her Czech opponent.

Elena Rybakina defeated Bianca Andreescu in straight sets 6-4 7-6 to qualify for the third round of the 2022 Wimbledon tournament.

In the men’s draw, Rafael Nadal booked his third round spot by claiming a win over Ricardas Berankis. The second seed needed four sets to defeat his Lithuanian opponent 6-4 6-4 4-6 6-3.

Fourth seed Stefanos Tsitsipas defeated Jordan Thompson in straight sets 6-2 6-3 7-5 to progress to the third round of the 2022 Wimbledon tournament.

Controversial Australian star Nick Kyrgios continued his march forward as he defeated Filip Krajinovic in straight sets 6-2 6-3 6-1 to reach the third round of the competition in style.

12th seed Diego Schwartzmann suffered a shock defeat at the hands of Liam Broady to exit the 2022 Wimbledon tournament at the second round. British star Broady played the match of his life to win in five sets 6-2 4-6 0-6 7-6 6-1 and progress to the third round.

13th seed Denis Shapovalov suffered a similar fate to Schwartzmann as he was sent crashing out of the competition at the second round. The Canadian star was defeated by America’s Brandon Nakashima in four sets. Nakashima claimed a 6-2 4-6 6-1 7-6 win to reach the third round of the competition.
