2022 Wimbledon Day One: Djokovic, Murray, Alcaraz book second round spots

Jabeur, Raducanu, Kontaveit all through to second round

Top seed Novak Djokovic overcame unseeded Korean Kwon Soon-Woo in four sets to qualify for the second round of the 2022 Wimbledon tournament. The Serbian claimed a 6-3 3-6 6-3 6-4 win over his opponent to become the first man to win 80 games in each of the four Grand Slams.

Fifth-seed teenager Carlos Alcaraz Garfia defeated Germany’s Jan-Lennard Struff in five sets to book his place in the second round of the competition. The Spaniard won 4-6 7-5 4-6 7-6 6-4 in the match.

Spaniard Alejandro Davidovich Fokina defeated seventh seed Hubert Hurkacz in five sets to proceed to the second round of the tournament. The Spaniard won 7-6 6-4 5-7 2-6 7-6 against his more favoured opponent.

French Open runner-up Casper Ruud defeated Albert Ramos-Vinolas in straight sets to qualify for the second round of the competition in England. The Norwegian won 7-6 7-6 6-2.

Veteran British star Andy Murray came back from a set down to defeat unseeded Australian James Duckworth 4-6 6-3 6-2 6-4 and book his place in the second round of the competition.

In the women’s side of the draw, Tunisian third seed Ons Jabeur had no problem in booking her place in the second round of the 2022 Wimbledon tournament after she claimed a 6-1 6-3 straight-sets win over Sweden’s Mirjam Bjorklund.

Second seed Anett Kontaveit defeated America’s Bernada Pera in straight sets to open her account at the All England Club. The Estonian claimed a 7-5 6-1 win over her unseeded opponent.

Tenth seed Emma Raducanu defeated Belgium’s Alison Van Uytvanck 6-4 6-4 in straight sets to book her place in the second round of the competition.

2018 Wimbledon champion Angelique Kerber eased past Kristina Mladenovic 7-5 6-0 to qualify for the second round of the competition.

Unseeded Czech player Marie Bouzkova stunned seventh seed Danielle Collins 5-7 6-4 6-4 to book his place in the second round of the competition.
