2022 Wimbledon Day Three: Djokovic progresses as Murray, Raducanu crash out

Kontaveit sent crashing out in second round

Three-time defending champion and top seed Novak Djokovic booked his place in the third round of the 2022 Wimbledon tournament after a 6-1 6-4 6-2 straight sets win over Thanasi Kokkinakis in the second round match at the All England Club.

Andy Murray lost a tennis match to John Isner for the first time in his career after he fell to the American in four sets in their 2022 Wimbledon second round meeting. Isner claimed a 6-4 7-6 6-7 6-4 win over the two-time Wimbledon champion to proceed to the third round.

Carlos Alcaraz Garfia qualified for the third round of the competition after he picked up a comprehensive straight sets win over Tallon Griekspoor 6-4 7-6 6-3 in what was in sharp contrast to his first round match at the tournament.

French Open finalist Casper Ruud was in for a rude shock as Frenchman Ugo Humbert sent him crashing out of the competition in the second round. Humbert needed four sets to dispatch his Norwegian opponent 3-6 6-2 7-5 6-4.

23rd seed Frances Tiafoe defeated Maximilian Marterer in straight sets 6-2 6-2 7-6 to progress to the third round of the 2022 Wimbledon tournament.

In the women’s draw, 2021 US Open champion Emma Raducanu crashed out of the competition after she lost to Caroline Garcia in straight sets 6-3 6-3 in their second round match up.

World number two Ons Jabeur breezed into the third round at Wimbledon after a 6-4 6-0 straight sets win over Katarzyna Kawa when both ladies faced each other in the second round of the competition.

Second seed Anett Kontaveit was stunned by world number 97 Jule Niemeier in straight sets and crashed out of the competition. The German Niemeier claimed a 6-4 6-0 win over her Estonian opponent.

Fifth seed Maria Sakkari defeated Viktoriya Tomova in straight sets 6-4 6-3 to book her place in the third round of the 2022 Wimbledon.

Angelique Kerber booked her place in the third round of the 2022 Wimbledon tournament after she claimed a 6-3 6-3 straight sets win over Magda Linette in the second round.
