2023 FIFA WWC: New Zealand stun Norway in first game

New Zealand defeated Norway 1-0 to get the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup off to a stunning start on Friday July 20.

Hannah Wilkinson scored the opening goal In the 49th minute of action at the Eden Park to stun their more illustrious opponents.

After a drab opening half, New Zealand got the second half off to a flying start when Handand broke away down the right side and her cross is inch perfect for Wilkinson who just has tapped home.

Norway pressed for an equalizer but it was 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup co-hosts New Zealand who almost doubled the lead with a penalty kick in the closing minutes.

A stunning start to the tournament, with underdogs New Zealand running away with victory to lead group A.

Australia Vs Ireland will face-off in the official opening game at the Sydney Stadium.
