2023 French Open Day 11: Zverev sets up Ruud semifinal clash

Swiatek overcomes Gauff, to face Haddad Maia in last four

Alexander Zverev booked his place in the semifinals of the 2023 French Open after overcoming Argentina’s Tomas Martin Etcheverry in four sets in their quarterfinal clash. The German star picked up a 6-4 3-6 6-3 6-4 win to reach the semifinals one year after suffering a horrible ankle injury at the same stage.

Fourth seed Casper Ruud overcame sixth seed Holger Rune in their quarterfinal clash to reach the last four in Roland Garros. The Norwegian star claimed the win in four sets to book a place in the semifinals. Ruud won the game 6-1 6-2 3-6 6-3 to book a semifinal meeting against Zverev.

In the women’s draw, World number one Iga Swiatek make light work of teenage American star Coco Gauff, defeating the sixth seed in straight sets in a repeat of last year’s final. The Pole claimed a 6-4 6-2 win to reach the semifinals of the 2023 French Open.

Beatriz Haddad Maia became the first Brazilian to reach a Grand Slam semifinal since 2001 when she defeated Ons Jabeur in three sets at Roland Garros. The 14th seed recovered from a set down to defeat the seventh seed 3-6 7-6- 6-1 and book a semifinal meeting with Swiatek.
