2023 French Open Day Five: Zverev, Ruud, Tiafoe, Fritz through to Round Three

Swiatek, Gauff, Jabeur, Rybakina, Andreescu also go through

Alexander Zverev showed his quality as a contender for the 2023 French Open when he picked up a straight sets win over Alex Molcan. The German 22nd seed, who suffered a nasty ankle injury in the tournament last year, claimed a 6-4 6-2 6-1 win to qualify for the third round of the competition.

Fourth seed Casper Ruud overcame a spirited Giulio Zeppieri in four sets to reach the third round in Roland Garros. The Norwegian star claimed a 6-3 6-2 4-6 7-5 win over his Italian opponent in their second round meeting.

Frances Tiafoe fought back from a set down to defeat Arslan Karatsev in four sets in their 2023 French Open second round meeting. The 12th seeded American claimed a 3-6 6-3 7-5 6-2 win over his opponent to reach the third round.

Ninth seed Taylor Fritz fought through the crowd and a set deficit to defeat Frenchman Arthur Rinderknech in four sets to reach the third round of the French Open. Fritz picked up a 2-6 6-4 6-3 6-4 win over the French player to win the second round clash.

Jannik Sinner bowed out of the 2023 French Open following a thrilling match against Daniel Altmaier. The eighth seed lost the match in over five hours against his unseeded German opponent, who claimed a 6-7 7-6 1-6 7-6 7-5 win over Sinner to reach the third round.

In the women’s draw, World number one Iga Swiatek was more dominant as she claimed a straight sets win over Claire Liu to reach the third round in Roland Garros. Swiatek picked up a 6-4 6-0 win over her American opponent to progress.

Coco Gauff reached the third round of the 2023 French Open after a straight sets win over unseeded Julia Grabher. The sixth seed picked up a 6-2 6-3 win to progress beyond the second round.

Bianca Andreescu picked up a straight sets win over Emma Navarro to qualify for the third round in France. The Canadian star won the match 6-1 6-4 to secure her place in the next round.

Fourth seed Elena Rybakina qualified for the third round after picking up a straight sets win over Linda Noskova at the 2023 French Open. Rybakina won the match 6-3 6-3 to progress in the tournament.

Seventh seed Ons Jabeur eased past French player Oceane Dodin in straight sets to reach the third round of the competition in Roland Garros. Jabeur claimed a 6-2 6-3 win to progress.
