World number one Iga Swiatek booked her place in the final of the 2023 French Open after another impressive win over Brazilian star Beatriz Haddad Maia in their semifinal meeting at Roland Garros.
The 22-year-old Pole won in straight sets 6-2 7-6 to reach her third French Open final and her second in succession. Swiatek has now reached the final of the tournament without dropping a single set, further cementing her place as the best player in women’s tennis. She defeated Haddad Maia, the first Brazilian woman to reach a Grand Slam semifinal since 1968.
In the other semifinal, Czech star Karolina Muchova needed over three hours to down second seed Aryna Sabalenka and reach her first-ever Grand Slam final. The unseeded 26-year-old secured a huge upset to defeat Australian Open champion Sabalenka, showing her doggedness and fighting spirit to win 7-6 6-7 7-5 in over three hours.
She will face Swiatek in the final of the 2023 French Open, where she will be looking to prevent the Pole from winning her third title in four years in Paris.
