2023 US Open Day Four: Alcaraz, Sinner, Pegula storm third round

Wawrinka, Sabalenka, Medvedev all through to Round Three

Reigning champion Carlos Alcaraz booked his place in the third round of the 2023 US Open with a straight sets win over South African star Lloyd Harris in their second round clash. The 20-year-old Spanish world number one picked up a 6-3 6-1 7-6 win over his opponent to remain on course for a title defence.

Third seed Daniil Medvedev booked his passage into the third round of the 2023 US Open with a comfortable win over Christopher O’Connell in their second round meeting. The Russian secured his place with a 6-2 6-2 6-7 6-2 win.

Sixth seed Jannik Sinner qualified for the third round after a straight sets win over fellow Italian Lorenzo Sonego in their second round clash. The 21-year-old claimed a 6-4 6-2 6-4 win over his compatriot to progress.

Bulgarian star Grigor Dimitrov ended Andy Murray’s participation at the 2023 US Open by claiming a straight sets win to send the legend crashing out of the tournament. The 19th seed picked up a 6-3 6-4 6-1 win to reach the third round of the tournament.

One-time US Open winner Stanislas Wawrinka became the oldest player to reach the third round of the tournament since 1991 after he defeated Thomas Martin Etcheverry in four sets. The 38-year-old Swiss star claimed a 7-6 6-7 6-3 6-2 win in their second round meeting.

In the women’s draw, third seed Jessica Pegula defeated Patricia Maria Tig in straight sets to qualify for the third round of the 2023 US Open. The American claimed a 6-3 6-1 win over her unseeded Romanian opponent.

13th seed Daria Kasatkina came from a set down to defeat Sofia Kenin and book her place in the third round of the tournament. She won their meeting 2-6 6-4 6-4 to emerge unscathed from the second round.

Ninth seed Marketa Vondrousova defeated Martina Trevisan in straight sets to qualify for the third round of the 2023 US Open. The Czech star claimed a 6-2 6-2 win to progress from the second round.

Second seed Aryna Sabalenka defeated Jodie Anna Burrage to qualify for the third round in Flushing Meadows. The Belarusian star picked up a 6-3 6-2 win to progress.

Fifth seed Ons Jabeur defeated Linda Noskova in three sets to reach the third round in Flushing Meadows. The Tunisian secured her place with a 7-6 4-6 6-3 win over her opponent.
