2023 Wimbledon Day Seven: Rublev wins thriller as Sinner, Safiullin both progress

Andrey Rublev qualified for the quarterfinals of the 2023 Wimbledon Championship after winning a thrilling fourth round clash against Alexander Bublik in five sets. The Russian seventh seed had to bring out his best to claim a hard-fought 7-5 6-3 6-7 6-7 6-4 win and progress into the last eight.

Roman Safiullin stunned 26th seed Denis Shapovalov by defeating him in the fourth round of the 2023 Wimbledon Championship and sending him crashing out of the tournament. Safiullin came from a set down to claim a 3-6 6-3 6-1 6-3 win and book his place in the quarterfinals of the competition.

Eighth seed Jannik Sinner dispatched Daniel Elahi Galan in straight sets to qualify for the quarterfinals at Wimbledon. The Italian national picked up a 7-6 6-4 6-3 win over his Colombian adversary to progress.

In the women’s event, world number one Iga Swiatek survived a major scare to defeat Belinda Bencic and reach the quarterfinals of the competition. The 14th seed Swiss star won the first set before Swiatek fought back to win the match in three sets, claiming a 6-7 7-6 6-3 win.

Ukrainian star Elina Svitolina defeated Victoria Azarenka in three sets to qualify for the last eight of the competition. Svitolina came from a set down to win the match 2-6 6-4 7-6 and progress to the quarterfinals of the 2023 Wimbledon Championship.

Fourth seed Jessica Pegula made light work of Lesia Tsurenko, defeating the Ukrainian in straight sets to qualify for the quarterfinals. Pegula claimed a 6-1 6-3 win in the match to progress.

16-year-old qualifier Mirra Andreeva stunned 22nd seed Anastasia Potapova in straight sets in their third round meeting at the 2023 Wimbledon Championship. Andreeva won the match 6-2 7-5 to reach the Last 16 of the tournament.

Marketa Vondrousova defeated 32nd seed Marie Bouzkova in their all-Czech fourth round clash. Vondrousova came from a set down to win the match 2-6 6-4 6-3 and qualify for the last eight of the competition.
