2023 Wimbledon Day Two: Alcaraz, Murray, Jabeur sail through to second round

World number one Carlos Alcaraz sent 36-year-old Frenchman Jeremy Chardy to his retirement with a straight sets, 6-0 6-2 7-5 win in Round One of the 2023 Wimbledon Championship. The 20-year-old booked his passage into the second round in flawless style.

Andy Murray received a great deal of support as he strolled past fellow Brit Ryan Peniston in straight sets in Round One of the 2023 Wimbledon Championship. Murray claimed a 6-3 6-0 6-1 win over Peniston to reach the second round.

Like Murray, Cameron Norrie flew the British flag into the second round after a win over Tomas Machac in four sets in their first round clash. Norrie claimed a 6-3 4-6 6-1 6-4 win to qualify for Round Two.

27th seed Dan Evans was not as lucky as his countrymen as he crashed out at the hands of Frenchman Quentin Halys in four sets to fall at the first hurdle. Halys won the encounter 6-2 6-3 6-7 6-4 to progress at his expense.

24th seed Japanese star Yoshihito Nishioka also fell to a straight sets defeat at the hands of Daniel Elahi Galan, who picked up a 6-4 6-3 6-3 win to progress into the second round.

29th seed Tomas Martin Etcheverry delivered a hugely impressive comeback to send Spaniard Bernabe Zapata Miralles crashing out of the tournament. Etcheverry came back from two sets down to win 6-7 5-7 6-3 6-4 7-5 and go through to the second round at the 2023 Wimbledon Championship.

In the women’s draw, second seed Aryna Sabalenka claimed a 6-3 6-1 straight sets win over Hungarian Panna Udvardy to reach the second round of the tournament.

Third seed Elena Rybakina came back from a set down to defeat American Shelby Rodgers 4-6 6-1 6-2 and qualify for the second round of the 2023 Wimbledon Championship.

Sixth seed Ons Jabeur eased past Magdalena Frech with a straight sets 6-3 6-3 win to qualify to the second round.

Swiss star Belinda Bencic defeated Brit Katie Swan in straight sets 7-5 6-2 to reach the second round of the tournament.

11th seed Daria Kasatkina defeated American Caroline Dolehide in straight sets 6-1 6-4 to book her place in the second round of the 2023 Wimbledon Championship.
